Since I was very little, I have had a weakness for music editing software. I downloaded my first free music editor software program when I was about 13. Back then, I knew nothing about music. It is true that I had played piano when I was younger, but at that point I did not play any musical instruments. There is just something so cool about music software editing. You could take a sound and do anything to it. You could cut it up, paste it back together, resample it – the works. When you are done, even if you haven’t written any of it yourself, you still end up with an original piece of music.

Over the years, however, I have gotten pretty serious about music editing software. You see, I have gotten pretty serious about music in general. Music software editing is not just a game for me anymore. Most of the time, I actually use my music editing software for recording and mixing my own works. What is so cool about music software is that it lets you do all the work of a studio at home. You can record, mix, edit, and process an original piece of music. All you need is the music editing software, a computer, and a microphone. You don’t even need a mixing board! It is amazing what technology has done for the  independent musician.

Of course, I still play with music editing software from time to time. It is impossible to resist the temptation. Sometimes, when I’m having a bad night and nothing comes together, I goof off all night. I take a small piece of music that I have recorded in the music editing software, slow it down, turn it backwards, filter it, mess with it, and turn it into something completely different. By the end, what was a normal guitar rift at the beginning has turned into something strange and alien, something exotic and out of this world. It is so much fun to do!

If you have never used music editing software before, I highly recommend using cool edit. It was my first music editing program, and it is still my favorite. Although there is music editing software that is able to do more than cool edit – such as Sound Forge – none of it is as easy to use. You can even download a demo version of it that is almost fully functional!

I would never have gotten into selling used stereo equipment except for my love of music. You see, few people set out to sell second hand equipment. In my case, it actually grew out of my hobbies. I have always loved music, both playing and listening to it, and by the time I made it through college I had collected all kinds of used equipment. I had processors, speakers, amplifiers, effects pedals, and receivers, not to mention several dozen musical instrument of various types.

I would buy this used stereo equipment at rock-bottom prices, and then fix up. I would keep some of it for myself. Other things, I would either give as gifts to friends, or sell. I made a tidy little profit on my cottage industry for a while, but soon I was thinking bigger. With all of that used stereo equipment, I thought I could start my own venue. I tried renting a a place for few a months, and although it was a lot of fun, we never made any money. Most of the people who we booked, you see, were punk rock bands. They had a lot of fans, but none of the fans were willing to pay more than a few bucks for tickets. It wasn’t long before we closed down.

I knew that I had to think of something to do with all of that used stereo equipment, and I had to do it fast. All of that work promoting my venue had left me dead broke. Soon, I would have to sell off my collection. Then it came to me. If I sold used stereo equipment, I could feed my passion. A lot of stereo equipment is very easy to refurbish, and if you can do it well, you can sell it for a lot more money than you get it for. Nowadays, people will bring in broken equipment and give it to me for almost nothing, and I sell the refurbished stereo equipment for a good markup. I sell car stereo equipment as well as home stereo equipment. Anything that makes noise, and quite a few things that don’t, is my domain.

The great thing about used stereo equipment, as opposed to other kinds of electronics, is that it is easy to tell whether or not it is in good shape. Used stereo equipment either works or doesn’t. If you’re buying a used computer, it might work for a few months and fall apart. With used stereo equipment, however, this is almost never the case. Usually, what you see is what you get.

It seems like only yesterday, but it has been almost ten years since I got my own email address for the first time. I remember that at that time, I was in school to learn how to use computers, but I had no idea what the Internet was or how it worked. I shook the first time I connected, and I was afraid that I would be running up my school’s bill for each site I went on. Back then Internet did cost more than it does now, and I had no idea how it was billed or what might cost money.

I know now that if you are going to be charged for something online you will be warned beforehand. In fact, you usually can’t do something that requires a fee unless you pay first. When I got my own email address, I was afraid it cost money, but then I thought that if it did, they wouldn’t leave the computers there for just anyone to come in and use. An instructor walked by and asked me what I was doing, and I said I wanted to sign up for my own email address, and he assured me that it was free and that I could go ahead and do it.

When I finally got up the nerve to sign up for my own email address, I used the first one I found. I don’t even know how I found it actually, because I doubt I knew how to use a search engine. I remember it quite clearly. It was Rocketmail, and I know that that doesn’t even exist any longer. I used my own email address a few times and then forgot about it, and when I came back online and tried to sign in to Rocketmail I got a message saying they were now owned by Yahoo. It then had me convert my email account to Yahoo. I guess that’s why I have Yahoo still to this day.

If you want your own email address, there’s no reason why you should have one. Look around for what you want. The most common free web based email providers are Yahoo and Hotmail. Both work well but I do prefer Yahoo. My husband has an email through Hotmail and I have my own email address through Yahoo, and I think mine just has a better set up. That will be up to you though. You can get your own email address through your service provider if you want to, or you can go web based. The advantage of web based is that you keep it if you switch providers. Other than that, it’s up to you and your needs.

 

EDI stands for Electronic Data Interchange. It is a documented standard that allows the transfer of data between different companies and their own proprietary networks. EDI defines the language that companies use to talk to each other and conduct business with each other electronically. EDI is very important. It provides a standard method for companies to buy, sell, and trade with one another. EDI is an ANSI documented standard for doing electronic business.

Many larger corporations use EDI extensively and require that those who do business with them to use EDI as well. For many smaller and mid-size companies, following EDI standards is a part of doing business.

EDI standards mirror what you would expect to see on paper documents. For example, an EDI order transmission would include one EDI order header record that would include the purchaser’s identification, the destination of the order, and the delivery date of the order. Each order header record would include one ore more order detail records. Each order detail record may include the item ordered and the quantity needed.

EDI standards for communications have been developed for many industries including banking, warehouses, medicine, transportation, engineering and more. The EDI standard allows free electronic data transmission between businesses. It defines what data comes in what order and how large each piece of data can be. It defines whether the data is characters only, numeric only, or a combination of the two. EDI also defines which data is required and which is not. Thus, if an EDI transmission is sent, it can be tested for accuracy and completeness.

Organizations that choose to send and receive data electronically via EDI standards are known as trading partners. Trading partners will agree together on which EDI transactions to send. Then each trading partner will map the EDI data to their company specific requirements, databases, and processes.

Many larger companies have a team of EDI software experts who are trained and experienced with the EDI requirements and standards. These teams are responsible for onboarding new trading partners, managing the EDI transmissions or current trading partners as well as maintaining the internal EDI systems as the EDI standards grow and evolve.

Many consulting companies will provide EDI experts and training to companies who are not equipped or experienced to handle EDI communications. In addition, user friendly interfaces to the world of EDI are available for smaller companies who need to use EDI for some of their business partners.

When I first moved into my current apartment, I was happy and dismayed with the clothes-washing situation. I was excited that I no longer had to go to a laundry mat (which I was going to refuse to do anyway), but was also dismayed to find that there was a compact washer and dryer in my tiny bathroom. Our place is small, but I was willing to pay the asking price for the washer, dryer, and the dishwasher. Otherwise, the place was just too small for what they landlord was asking.

The apartment is pretty modern, but I still wasn’t sure about the compact washer and dryer, even after we had moved in a signed the lease. I was sure it was better than nothing though, and I was willing to give it a go. The first time I tried the compact washer and dryer I was surprised to see how much I could fit in there, and the clothes all came out very clean. Even the dryer worked very well for its size, and our electric bill wasn’t much higher than it would have been had we not had the set.

As I became used to using the compact washer and dryer set, I began to wish there was room for it somewhere else. Though I loved it, it was a pain to have it in my bathroom. There was nowhere else to put it though, so I learned to live with it. The problems started when the dryer suddenly stopped working. I don’t know what had happened. The compact washer and dryer had worked so well, and then suddenly one day I was without a dryer. In a small apartment, that can be a huge problem.

My landlord came over to see if she could fix the compact washer and dryer on her own. I knew she couldn’t, but that is just the way she is. She finally called someone else in to fix it, but they could not seem to figure out what was wrong. She bought a new, separate dryer to go in our dining room. I am glad I have a dryer that works, but I now have less space than I did. I would recommend a compact washer and dryer to anyone who might be short on space, but be sure to have someone more qualified than a landlord with nothing else to do to fix it.
