The Problem With Real Player

There are a lot of ways you can play music and view video on your computer, and Real Player is just one of them. I have this on my computer along with all the others that I have had to download in order to see or hear something that I found online. The problem is that my computer is slow and it can’t handle all of the media. I rarely use Real Player, but there are times when I must. It’s not helping my computer any, and now that I have a good firewall, I have found that it is slowing me down.

The Real Player wants to start up each time I turn on my computer. It takes up a lot of resources and slows my browser down. My firewall is always warning me that Real Player is trying to access the Internet. I don’t know why, though I think it is for updates on the services and all of the features they have. I always deny it, because I don’t use it very often, and the updates take forever. I can’t get anything down. There is no reason to wait for an hour while it takes its sweet time updating things that I couldn’t care less about.

Real Player has a nice library feature, and it was nice to use when I had a lot of music on my computer. After I switched to Windows XP, I found that I had a lot less space on my hard drive, and I had to take most of those songs off of my computer. Now that I don’t really listen using Real Player, I don’t have the need for it to update whenever it feels like it. It seems strange that it tries to do it every day, and a part of me worries that I have a virus that is working through the software.

I am getting a new laptop this year, and I am going to have to have Real Player on again, I’m sure. This time though, I will have more space on my drive, and it might not be such an issue if it tries to update. I still won’t let it update every day though. I will allow it once in a while. There is no need for Real Player to suck up system resources and possibly download a bunch of stuff I don’t need or want. It’s one of those things that really doesn’t tell you what it’s going to do until it does it.
